My First Short Story: A Trip
EXT. River — EVENING
BALARAM just wakes up on the shores of the Godavari River in Rajahmundry facing downwards and head towards the river. He feels dizzy and he clearly hears the sound of the river before seeing it. He hears a faded voice, while he was lying down looking at the river. He looks back to find out that voice belongs to the most admired girl in the class, MEGHA.
MEGHA
What happened to you BALARAM? Why are you here?
BALARAM
He shouts “Why the fuck is the sky YELLOW?”
MEGHA
What? Seriously?
BALARAM
I am not kidding. Just tell me whats going on?
MEGHA
First tell me, How long have you been here?
BALARAM
I have no idea, I have no memory of it. The last thing I remember is that I was hanging out with RAMEEZ and SAMPOORNA.
MEGHA
Okay. Let's walk and talk!
EXT. River — EVENING
MEGHA and BALARAM are walking towards MEGHA’s home.
MEGHA
You know, the sky is showing all the colors of the Rainbow. One-color per day.
BALARAM
This doesn’t feel real to me! What happened?
MEGHA
It's happening due to the nuclear tests of North Korea in the pacific ocean which was conducted a couple of weeks back. We are yet to know the repercussions of this!
BALARAM
Tell me about the colors.
MEGHA
Well, it started on a Thursday; The sky turned Violet. Followed by Indigo, Blue, Green, etc., you know the colors of the rainbow anyways.
BALARAM
That means today is a Monday.
MEGHA
Correct.
BALARAM
Can I borrow your phone? I can’t find my phone.
MEGHA
Sure.
BALARAM
I can’t recollect any of my parent’s number. It's weird and on top of that, my head is aching like hell.
MEGHA
Don’t worry. My house is nearby. Let's go there first and you can rest for a while. I’ll book an Uber for you from there.
BALARAM
Cool.
INT. MEGHA’S home — LATER
MEGHA informs that her mother has gone out for shopping. And they talk over a cup of tea.
BALARAM
Thanks for the tea MEGHA. I’ll head home now. I am a little worried.
MEGHA
Okay! Take my phone and put your address.
INT. UBER Cab — NIGHT
A Tesla arrives as a cab and BALARAM gets shocked.
BALARAM
He asks CABBIE “from when are the Tesla’s on the road?
CABBIE
(silence)
BALARAM
Hello?
CABBIE
(silence)
EXT. BALARAM’S HOUSE — NIGHT
Balaram runs towards his home. Climbs 2 stories of the 2-storied blue building and he finds out that the main door is locked. He searches for people so that he can contact somebody from his family. But cannot find anyone, not even on the first floor. Luckily he has the keys to his Pulsar 200NS. He rides to RAMEEZ’s house.
EXT. RAMEEZ’S HOUSE — NIGHT
He knocks the door and RAMEEZ opens it.
BALARAM
Bro, I can’t reach my Mom and Dad. And my house is locked. I woke up on the shore of Godavari near MEGHA’s home.
RAMEEZ
What? did you wake up where? I just know that your parents went on a business trip and probably they are on a flight.
BALARAM
Ya! I woke up near MEGHA’s home and all the sky shit is going on.
RAMEEZ
We shall discuss this first thing in the morning. Take a rest.
BALARAM
I will sleep once I get confirmation on my parent's bro.
EXT. RAMEEZ’S HOUSE — MORNING
BALARAM wakes up and realizes that he might have dozed off the previous night. He walks outside to see that color of the sky is Red!
RAMEEZ
You have slept for one whole day.
BALARAM
I figured that out.
RAMEEZ
Aunty called me and she said she will be in a meeting till 12 PM. So, you go freshen up.
BALARAM
Ya!
INT. RAMEEZ’S BATHROOM
BALARAM switches on the shower. His body starts shaking.
EXT. UNKNOWN ROOM
BALARAM slowly opens his eyes to see RAMEEZ and SAMPOORNA are talking but he can’t hear them. He wipes the water on his face with his hand and he slowly turns his gaze to check the surroundings. He sees a Newspaper with North Korea missile testing, Tesla, and article 377 as the headlines and a mug of water.
SAMPOORNA
I told you to not let him smoke up! It's his first and he overdid it. Now, look at him.
RAMEEZ
Ha! But I didn’t know he would be like this.
BALARAM
FUCK! Give me my phone.
